Special Alta News Update:

Attached below are three PDF files that summarize changes for 2007 for the CMS’s classification of ICD-9 codes.  These new codes go into effect on October 1, 2006.  Note the information in each of the files (pdf):

We recommend that each of you review your current encounter form against this information and determine whether or not you have any changes that need to be incorporated.  In our experience, most commercial insurance companies will follow suit with the changes made by Medicare.  However, it is not easy to determine the “effective date” when the insurance companies recognize the changes.  To be safe, please review this information in its entirety.

We spoke to Alta Partner’s Director of Operations, Anne Hanzel, to help us identify those changes which would most impact our practices.  Most of the changes are related to the OB/GYN specialty.  At a minimum, please consider these items:

NOTE: For our Misys users.  For those ICD-9 Codes that are invalid as of October 1, 2006, we will inactivate them from our system on October 8, 2006 in order to prevent you from using an invalid code.  (We can allow for an override as necessary to work out any issues for claims prior to October 1, 2006).
