Dan has over twenty-five (25)
years of health care experience focused mainly in physician
practice management and development. Other experience
includes acquisition and development work for a $1.7 billion
publicly traded hospital management company. He has
worked for private practice and health system affiliated
physician groups, both for-profit and non-profit, as well as
primary care and multi-specialty groups. Two groups
were start-up practices that required practice development
and operations, physician recruitment, compensation and
benefit plan development, office development, mergers and
acquisitions, and billing office management. His
tenure with physician practices includes groups ranging in
size from twenty (20) to ninety (90) physicians and serving
in the positions of Regional Practice Director, Chief
Operating Officer, Chief Executive Officer, and President.
Prior to founding Alta
Partners with Stan Kasmarcak, Dan was Chief Operating
Officer of the Fairview Medical Group (FMG) in Cleveland,
Ohio, responsible for the overall management of the group
and reporting to FMG's physician President. He has

an article on billing office productivity for the Medical
Group Management Association’s “MGMA Connexion” journal.
Dan completed his BS degree in Biological Health (Health

Stan’s career path has closely
followed the twists that healthcare has taken over the past
20 years and began by providing auditing and financial
support services with Coopers & Lybrand, in Cleveland, as an
Audit Senior. One of his first clients provided mobile MRI,
CT and nuclear medicine services and for several years
joined the organization and served as their Controller.
Stan then worked with a local healthcare consulting firm,
riding a wave of demand by hospitals for fair market
valuations of physician practices during the furious
practice acquisition period from 1994-1998. During that
time, Stan prepared fair market valuations for over 300
physician practices and performed other consulting
assignments including physician compensation plan
development, billing revenue management and enhancement
engagements, financial pro-forma modeling, and financial
due-diligence assignments.
Stan’s last assignment before founding Alta Partners, was to
serve as Director of Finance for the Fairview Medical Group
(FMG), a 100+ multi-specialty practice of physicians
employed by the Fairview Health System. Stan’s primary
efforts were to improve the billing operations of the FMG,
re-vamp the physician compensation program then in place,
and evaluate areas where expenses could be better managed.
When the Fairview Health System decided to no longer employ
primary care physicians, Stan and Dan saw an opportunity and
began to provide billing services independently as “Alta
Partners”.
Stan completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at
Cleveland State University (CSU) and has been a member of
CSU’s adjunct faculty, teaching healthcare finance to MBA
students. He is also an active member with several area
healthcare associations and was the 2003-05 President of
Healthcare Executives of Northeast
Ohio (HEANO), the local chapter affiliate of the
American College of Healthcare
Executives, (ACHE). Over the years, Stan has spoken on the topics
of physician compensation, ,physician benchmarking and practice valuation at the national conferences for the
Medical Group Managers Associations
(MGMA), the
Healthcare Financial Managers
Association (HFMA) and the ACHE. |
